Big Daddy Update

BDL SAFETY BULLETIN:
In the Fog

OK folks it's that time of year when the fog is thicker
than pea soap and visability is reduced in half.
The other morning as I made my daily commute from
Spotsylvania to Alexandria the fog was extremely dense.
We've all traveled in our car is dense fog but on a
motorcycle the daily hazards are multiplied ten fold.
Having road in fog before I reminded myself to reduce
my speed and remain even more vigilant of deer and
objects that I could normally see in the distance and
also to keep my headlight on dim. Drawing on experience
I entered the ramp and headed north on I-95. This was
the first time I have ever felt drops of dew from the vehicles
in front of me fly off the cagers cars and hit me. To say
the least this was dense fog. I left extra distance between
myself and the cagers in front of me. I was however surprised
to see not only less tailgating than normal but also there
were no accidents during my leg of the commute. That's
not to say there weren't accidents at other times of the
commute or on other roads that might have been caused
by the fog. My advice to anyone who finds themselves in
a foggy situation is to either pull over and enjoy a bite to
eat while the fog burns off or slow down and increase your
situational awareness. I made it to work no problem that
morning. It seemed to me the fog made everyone slow down.
Although it was hard to see any distance the cagers actually
gave each other more distance.

Until next time,
Ride Free,
Doug
