Memorial Ride

Hey NOVA,

When we were talking today about the ride next week from Amissville,

it hit me that this ride is taking place next Saturday right in our back yard.

Is anybody interested?? Debbie and I are going to ride and represent NOVA.

I found this on Nawty Dog's website

On September 22, 2007 – At Garfield High School, Woodbridge, VA at 12:00 noon

There will be a Memorial Ride in Honor of

Sgt. David (Davey) Alan Ruhren

Asking for $20.00 Donations will be split in half & awarded to:

“David Alan Ruhren Scholarship Fund” & “Children of Fallen Soldiers Fund” also

In the name of “David Alan Ruhren”

We are hoping to make this a day that won’t soon be forgotten with:

Special events at the school – His own personal bike will be on display & be the lead bike in the ride - a ride to go by Davey in his honor & to show respect & many more surprises. The ride will end with a free picnic and door prizes at Lunga Park.

Help Honor the Memory of a Soldier & give a child a chance.

.

We do ask that you do pre-register in order to get a semi clear count of riders.

Make checks payable to: David Alan Ruhren Scholarship Fund or Children of Fallen Soldiers fund.

Ride will start at 12 noon but we ask that you get there early to have a space in line.

For those who do not pre-register. There will be stands set up starting as early as 7am in the parking lot of the school.

This Memorial Ride is being sponsored by: GARFIELD SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, DAVEY BOY’S CAFÉ, ARMY NATL GUARD, COMBAT VETERANS OF AMERICA MOTORCYCLE CLUB & JOJO’S ICE CREAM to name a few - but we are still looking for more people & establishments that can make this an event to never forget.

If you would like to participate in a MORE then worthy cause?

more background information on this ride

Please read the letter the Mother of Sgt David Ruren sent. Her son David was a VFW member of Post 1503 and used to ride. She suffered a great loss of a Son she dearly loved and is attempting to organize a memorial ride in his honor on 22 Sept. that will start at Garfield High School and conclude at Quantico National Cemetary. If any NDET members would like to participate, please let me know. I plan to ride with CVAMC. This year will be a modest affair, but I imagine she would be interested in participating in next year's Frazier-Mason memorial run. I do not have her email, but will try to suggest it to her when I see her at the ride.

Davey bought a 48 Pan Head while he was in Iraq, but he never actually got to physically see it - the bike wasn't brought home till after I lost him.

That bike will be the lead bike on a trailer that will be converted into a float. There will be flag draped over the seat & there will be NO driver
I just feel that this day is Davey's day & I just can't have someone riding that bike on this particular day.

Garfield High School will be allowing us to use their Parking Lot & are trying to see if they can open the School so that people can go to the lobby & see the Memorial they have already done almost 2 yrs ago.
They are also going to see if I can use 1 of the auditoriums - to do slide shows etc.
My son graduated from this school & he was also in the color guard - so the school will be offering their color guards to participate.

The ride actually starts at 12noon but there will be stands there as early as 7am for people who have NOT pre-registered - i really really need people to pre- register if at all possible so that I can have a semi clear head count.

The ride will go south down the parkway & turn onto 234 which will cross over to Joplin Rd - where it will then go to Quantico Natl. Cemetery - we then will be going pass my son - there I will have a Army Soldier in uniform standing behind my son saluting as the riders go by.
This will give people a chance to pay their respects & at the same time it gives my son a chance to see how much people truly love & respect him.

I still need to get in contact with someone in PW County police to see what their expectations are & see if they will escort the ride - i keep calling but no one ever returns the calls

We then will go thru the back gate of Quantico - (Already approved) to Lunga Reservoir - Reserved Maple #1 & #2 - where there we will just hang out & do some grilling. My son loved Lunga - he went fishing there & loved going there on the 4th of July - so I thought that would be the perfect ending.

The ride is donations only but at the school we will have 50/50 drawings
