Motorcycle Roads

Leesburg, VA to Antietam National Battlefield in MD
Submitted By: "Eagle One"
GWRRA Virginia Chapter Y, Blue Ridge Wings of Leesburg, VA

You are heading to the Antietam National Battlefield, where it is easy to imagine one of the bloodiest Civil War battles taking place as the Blue and the Grey advanced and retreat among the hills, valleys, dales, and rivers. The back country roads of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland make this a magnificent ride because of changing scenery alternating between farm and ranch land, the horse country, and the scenic riverside along the Shenandoah River. This is a special ride enjoyed by all. Start early in the morning.

The road starts from Leesburg, VA and heads away from the city dwelling deeper and deeper into the back country roads of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, snaking along with the Shenandoah River and traversing the ranches and farms. The road narrow more and more on this route, twisting and turning, up and down hills, revealing the countryside and vista at every point.

Leesburg, VA is a fine starting city. Soon tho', you are in the boonies, so tank up with gas before staring out on this short distance ride. The ride is about 1 1/2 hours because it is slow going, and spectacular. Once at the Antietam National Battlefield, you'll have a visitors' center with bathrooms, a theater, small museum, and small gift shop. You'll want to see the movie to give you the thrust of the battle before you cruise the grounds. Plan on spending about 1 hour in the visitors' center. You'll want to tour the battlefield by bike, which takes about one hour. Be sure to climb the tower and to visit the bridge. Leaving the battlefield, head east to the Red Byrd Restaurant in Keedysville, MD for lunch. Any small paved road south is a good bet returning to Leesburg, VA.

Habitat for Humanity Ride

Crew,
We just got a note from Scott Gurkins from Coastal BTW about the

Poker Run, April 19th in Richmond.

This will be a great opportunity for the entire Virginia State BTW
to get together to show what trikers are made of. Last year there
was 1500 bikes and trikes in this Poker Run.

Here is the link for the website: http://www.hanoverhfh.org:80/

What are your thoughts on this ride?
It would be a great time to blow the dust off of the trike
and put your nose into the wind...
Let us know if you are interested...
We are going to ride down and have some fun..

Dear Fellow Americans,

We need your support! Sgt Josh Frazier and Sgt Nick Mason lost their lives while they were serving in Iraq defending our Great Nation. The families, in their sons’ memories, have organized a scholarship foundation to bring attention to our Fallen Heroes from the War on Terrorism and to assist other young men and women in need of help. The name of the organization is the Frazier-Mason “Some Gave All” Memorial Foundation. They will be holding their 2008 Frazier-Mason “Some Gave All” Memorial Rally on 7 June 2008 (10AM – 4PM) at the GM Power Train Plant on Route 2 Fredericksburg, Virginia located within Spotsylvania County.

Last year our event drew 454 motorcycles and over 1,000 people attended the inaugural ride from Spotsylvania High School to King George High School. The logistics of a ride with this many participants took tremendous support from the local law enforcement agencies, Veteran organizations, motorcycle clubs and countless volunteers. This event is bound to grow from year to year and in order to reduce the logistical strain we’d be placing on the local law enforcement agencies we’ve opted to change this event from a ride to a rally, much like Rolling Thunder.

What we are asking of organizations like yours is your support organizing rides into the rally from any and all locations around Virginia. We are requesting all Virginia VFW’s, American Legions, Moose Lodges, Eagle’s, Veteran, Military, Law Enforcement, Fire and Recue, and all other Motorcycle Clubs help with this task in order to Honor our Fallen Heroes on this special day. We are expecting in excess of 1,000 bikes for this year’s event and can not make the event a success without your support.

If anyone is aware of a family who would like their Fallen Hero honored at this event they should contact Jana Frazier at frazierjana@yahoo.com or Christine Mason at christine.mason@navy.mil. Additional details can be obtained from Doug or Michelle Cantrell at either douglas.cantrell@us.army.mil or Michelle@bigdaddyleather.com. The Master of Ceremonies will be Chuck Zink and he can be reached at chuck.zink@kmytech.com. Please visit our web site at www.somegaveall.org.

Sincerely,
